Throw your pup a party!

Me, Tom, and my birthday gifts!

For my 2nd birthday back in April, my family threw me a party. I got lots of cool presents like a bite-sized tire, a giant bone (which I am still chewing today!), some stuffed toys, and even beef jerky!

Since lots of people treat their pets just like any other family member, pet parties are becoming quite popular. For ideas, tips, and everything you need to throw your pet a birthday bash, visit Tail Waggin' Celebrations. Hats, favors, treats, invitations - all you need to add is your animal!

Have A Happy Pet Birthday!

Guest Dog Of The Week - Ike

This week's guest dog is Ike, a cutie who got his picture sent to me after he attended the Clemson v. Texas A & M Football game a few weeks ago. He's a great tailgater, even if he is a Clemson fan.

Since Ike lives in South Carolina, right near last week's guest dog, Sydney, take this opportunity to help pets in the area of Texas A & M in College Station, Texas. You can visit The Brazos Animal Shelter. Adopt a pet, donate, volunteer, or help with their expansion.

Dogs Love Oprah!

oprahdogs

On the 20th Season premiere of her talk show yesterday, Oprah Winfrey introduced three new members of her family: golden retriever puppies Luke, Layla, and Gracie. They came to live in the lap of luxury with her other dogs, cocker spaniels Sophie and Solomon. Now that's a great looking dog pack!

You too can treat your dogs to the celebrity lifestyle Oprah's pups get. Get training for you AND your dog with National Geographic Television star and Oprah's featured dog whisperer, Caesar Millan, at his Dog Psychology Center in Los Angeles. Or sign up for doggie daycare, cageless boarding, and dog training the "natural way" with Oprah's expert, Tamar Gellar, at The Loved Dog in West Los Angeles. Don't you wish we could all be California dogs?

Guest Dog Of The Week - Sydney

Since I posted about Mayday's cat encounter earlier in the week, I thought it was appropriate to make this week's guest dog Mayday's mother, Sydney. Sydney is a sweet five-year-old Dachsund from Greenville, South Carolina. Clearly, she loves to play with her Kong toys!

To help pets in Mayday's area, visit The Greenville Humane Society where you can adopt, donate, or even volunteer to help with the "Pet Therapy" program. Thanks!

Cats Again

Mayday, a dog I know from South Carolina (and my first-ever Guest Dog Of The Week), sent me an e-mail including pictures of her first encounter with a cat.

A friend brought a cat over to her house.

At first she was curious.

Then she was violently attacked by that darn cat!

Then she just didn't like the thing.

People keep telling me cats are okay and can even be fun to play with, but I have yet to meet one that's not just mean! Mayday, too.

Guest Dog Of The Week

This week's guest dog is a dog I met on vacation. I met him in the parking lot of Wal-mart in Evanston, Wyoming while on the way to the camp grounds over the weekend. He is a good-looking dog who was riding in the back of his family's pick-up truck. We barked to each other and he wanted to get out but obviously couldn't just jump out of the truck in the parking lot. We didn't get to play and I didn't learn his name, but I will always remember meeting him!

To help pets in Evanston, Wyoming, visit the Evanston Animal Control Shelter. You can adopt pets with a free vet exam included, as well as get cremation services for your pet.

On The Road Day 2

tomtent

After spending the night in a tent in Lyman, Wyoming on Saturday night, I woke up bright and early with the sun and had to wait a long time until my family woke up! Finally, when I tried to escape by nudging the zipper on the tent door with my nose, those lazy humans woke up and I could finally go out and enjoy nature!

It was very nice weather so we spent a while just lounging in the sun. When it warmed up a bit I moved over to the shadow of the car, and just watched people and sniffed the smells of the outdoors.

I also took the opportunity to do one of my favorite things - roll around in the grass! I found some dandelions that smelled quite nice, so I rolled around in those too make myself smell like a flower.

By the afternoon, it was time to head home. I had fun on our camping trip but I have to admit it tired me out. I spent the car ride home curled up and snoozing in the back seat. It was great to finally be home, but I always enjoy an adventure!

On The Road Day 1

sonnycar

This weekend, my family took me on a road trip! I didn't know it was coming, but before I knew it, I was in the back seat of the car with a pillow and a cooler, heading out of the city and into the wilderness of Wyoming! I was in the car for a very long time (2 whole hours!) but it turned out to be worth it.

I have been camping before - in fact, I have been camping in Wyoming - but not since I was very little. I'll tell you, as I sat in the car and watched the humans set up a tent, I was excited. Sleeping outside? It's a dream come true! I spent a long time just staring out of the tent windows, sniffing, listening to birds and people and other dogs - it was fascinating.

I even saw horses in the field behind the campgrounds! I love seeing new and interesting animals. They smell funny and make funny noises!

We took some walks around the campgrounds, which were good exercise as well as a great opportunity to explore. When we went to sleep, I cuddled up against my mom under lots of blankets. It was cold! But it was very quiet, and fun too! I really do like it outside. I definitely recommend camping for all dogs!

I'll tell you more about my trip tomorrow. It's too much for just one post!

ASPCA Disaster Relief

As with virtually everything located on the Gulf Coast, many animal shelters have been devastated by Hurricane Katrina. These organizations are commited to helping animals and they desperately need our help. The ASPCA Disaster Relief Fund helps shelters and organizations across the country that are impacted by natural disasters. Animal Lovers can donate now and your donation will go directly to help shelters in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama that have been impacted by Hurricane Katrina to rebuild facilities and assist in their disaster recovery efforts. The animals and the worthwhile organizations that help them survive will thank you!
